IHE Delft and GEF IW: LEARN are co-coordinating the ‘International Cooperation’ topic under the Capacity theme for the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia (March 2018).

IW: LEARN is the Global Environment Facility's (GEF) International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network.

The 8th World Water Forum Thematic Framework is structured in six main themes and three crosscutting issues, which relate to each other as follows:

Capacity is one of the so called ‘crosscutting issues’ and has four themes under it:

  • Enhancing education and capacity building
  • Science and technology and decision/policy making – 7th World Water Forum S&T Process
  • ICT and monitoring
  • International cooperationco-coordinated by IHE Delft

As topic coordinator, IHE Delft has proposed ideas for sessions which are currently under review with the Capacity theme coordinators. The session will address questions like how to expand support to international cooperation and capacity building to achieve SDG6 and international cooperation as a key factor to address the water and climate relationship.

In addition, IHE Delft together with CAP-Net have also proposed a High Level Panel meeting to specifically address the issue of capacity development for the water sector. A decision on this proposal is expected by mid-November 2017.

Lastly, IHE Delft is actively trying to engage the Water Youth Network in its activities during the Forum either through participation in sessions or other joint activities.
