On 23 April 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the government of Argentina and IHE Delft. The agreement involves the delivery of an Advanced Urban Sanitation Diploma by IHE Delft in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The agreement was signed at IHE Delft by the Argentinean Undersecretary for Water and Infrastructure, Dr. Pablo Bereciartua, the President of Agua y Saneamiento Argentinos S.A. (AySA) Ing. Jose Luis Inglese, a member of the AySA board, Mr. Jose Luis Lingeri, and the Rector of IHE Delft, Professor Eddy Moors. The Argentinean Ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E. Alumnus, Dr. Pablo J. Bereciartua, Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Water of Argentina about the MoU:
''Today is a very important day, as we have signed an agreement to start a capacity development project with IHE Delft. It is also very important to me because I happen to be an alumnus of IHE Delft. I studied here in the 1990s. I am happy to be back at this institution where I was a student. Now I am here as Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Water of Argentina, and able to sign an agreement to collaborate in capacity development."
Tailor-made sanitation diploma
The agreement includes the delivery of two cohorts of a tailor-made Advanced Urban and Sanitation Diploma; each diploma consists of eight modules which will be delivered in Buenos Aires, Argentina from May to December 2018. At least eight academic staff from the IHE Delft Environmental Engineering and Water Technology Department, with strong expertise in the field, are involved in the delivery of these two diplomas. 80 water professionals affiliated with water companies in Argentina will receive the diploma.
The collaboration with the Argentinean government was initiated by the Alumni Relations Officer, Ms. Maria Laura Sorrentino, in collaboration with academic staff from the Sanitary Engineering core at IHE Delft Prof. Dr. Damir Brdjanovic and Dr. Hector Garcia. This agreement is a follow-up of an MoU signed between FUTRASAFODE and IHE Delft in May 2017, which established the framework for initiating the collaboration with AySA.
This initiative is also part of the proposals discussed and developed by IHE Delft staff members during the Netherlands’ mission to Argentina in the month of November 2017, after the agreement and MoU signed in the Netherlands by H.E. King Willem Alexander and H.E. Mauricio Macri, the Argentinean President.
