As (temporary) Corporate Communications Advisor, Alan Hodgson defines key objectives for the internal & external communications strategy, developing and implementing a multi-channel approach. He advises staff on communication best practices and supports them with access to the appropriate channels to promote their professional expertise and activities, including their projects and publications.
Alan's main responsibilities include producing UPDATE magazine and other corporate publications such as Highlights; overseeing the corporate website and making sure that content is of consistently high quality. He also supports academic staff members in drafting communication and dissemination plans for capacity development and research projects, including DUPC2 projects.
Alan is providing maternity cover for Emma Meurs until January 2017, and comes with an MA degree in Society, Science and Technology, in Europe (awarded as part of the ESST programme). He has worked as a communications professional for various international development organizations, such as Save the Children UK and Voluntary Service Overseas, and more recently for a variety of UN agencies such as United Nations Volunteers, United Nations Office for Project Services and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Along the way he has developed skills across a variety of platforms and products (incl. writing, video, photography, intranets, websites and social media), as well as in project management and knowledge management.
