CASTT Adaptation Academy Course on Climate Change and Adaptation
For whom?
Early to mid-career professionals from developing countries with relevant background or working in the field of climate change and adaptation.
This is a special course for which about 25 fellowships (covering: tuition fee, return ticket from home country of participant to the Netherlands, accommodation, health insurance and daily allowance), are available. Only candidates from developing countries can apply for this course and the fellowship.
Applicants must also submit a motivation letter using the specified template together with the application.
Prerequisites
A bachelor degree or higher with at least two years of experience in a climate change and adaptation related fields.

Learning objectives
Upon completion, the participant should be able to:
- Summarise the hazards and risks for different sectors associated with changing climate at local, regional and global scales and approaches to combating these.
- Describe the goals of the Paris Agreement, and key elements of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) including the national adaptation action and plans and their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) reporting.
- Describe climate change vulnerability and adaptation assessments and adaptation planning processes and critically review related reports.
- Facilitate the development of specific components of the ETF.
Course content
Topics included in the course are:
- Climate change and related hazards and risks on different sectors and scales
- Paris Agreement on climate change, Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), and NDCs for developing countries
- Climate change impacts and vulnerability assessments – data, tools and approaches
- Climate change adaptation approaches for different sectors and adaptation planning process
- Critical review of country specific climate change adaptation plans, monitoring and evaluation system and NDC reports.

About the CASTT Adaptation Academy
The Climate Action and Support Transparency Training (CASTT) Adaptation Academy, was initiated by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat, in collaboration with five research and educational institutions.
Designed to provide a multi-week training programme on the Paris Agreement, with a focus on the adaptation reporting aspects of the enhanced transparency framework, the Adaptation Academy will aim to enhance technical capacity for adaptation assessments, planning, policy frameworks and coordination across ministries and governance levels to act on climate change.
