What made you decide to study this particular program?
Pakistan is blessed with big rivers. However, there is a need to develop these rivers for the benefit of the people of Pakistan. This can be done by developing sustainable small and mega dams and reservoirs. In addition, we should also optimize the operations of the existing dams.

The program being offered at IHE Delft is robust and deals with comprehensive development of rivers with particular attention towards the sediment management, flood and drought management, development of storage and hydropower. It also focuses on the use of free and open source models and commercial models to simulate and optimize the rivers.

Moreover, the field trip in France and Italy provided an ample opportunity to apply the theory in the field and come up with the solutions while working with data scared small catchments.

Can you say something about studying in Delft/the Netherlands? (Cultural and social experiences)
Studying in Delft is a unique experience. One of the fun parts is the biking, which is another way of doing workouts rather than going to gymnasiums etc. The weather is superb with lot of fresh air and scenic beauty which has an impact on physical health. The accommodation is also nice; and having supporting friends around makes Delft feel like a second home away from home. It indeed is a memorable time in my life.

What kind of professional background do you need to succeed in this program?
My educational background is in civil engineering, but my colleagues are from irrigation and agriculture backgrounds. It is better for those who have background experience in hydrodynamics, river engineering, sedimentology and river modeling to come and enhance their knowledge and expertise, but with simple civil engineering background one can cope with the pace of studies in IHE Delft.

Why should new students/water professionals choose this program?
The program being offered at IHE Delft will boost the knowledge and expertise of water professionals and equip them with new tools, models, advanced knowledge and international practices that helps them in decision-making processes keeping in view the short and long term perspective.

Do you have any advice for new students?
If you get the chance, come and join the family of water professionals here and it will be the Internal Happiness Everlasting (IHE) at the end. But be prepared to work hard with devotion and consistency and never give up because the reward at the end is worth it.
