Dr. Andrea Koch-Kraft, Programme Manager at the PT-DLR Project Management Agency for the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will give a presentation on the Future Megacities programme.

With its funding programme “Research for the Sustainable Development of Megacities of Tomorrow” the German BMBF focuses on ‘energy- and climate-efficient structures in urban growth centres’. The funding programme currently covers nine projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The research is conducted by inter- and transdisciplinary teams in reference to model cities and model regions. Thereby German consortia cooperate with corresponding teams in the partner countries. Since the beginning of the main phase (2008) the programme focuses on energy- and climate efficiency in urban growth centres.

Dr. Andrea Koch-Kraft was trained as a geographer at McGill University, Montreal, The University of Alberta, Edmonton and Marburg University where she received her doctorate in 1989. Since then she has worked as a scientific officer at the German Advisory Council on Global Change, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, The German Embassy in Ottawa. Since 1994 she has been connected to the BMBF as programme manager of BMBF's research priority on “Future Megacities”.
