Deltares and UNESCO-IHE continue their cooperation

On 12 May 2014, Deltares and UNESCO-IHE have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue building upon their good relationship over the past decades. The renewed MoU serves as a reference for initiating, promoting and coordinating joint activities and was signed by Mr. Smits, Managing Director of Deltares and Prof. Szöllösi-Nagy, Rector of UNESCO-IHE.

General aims

The general aims of the cooperation are to jointly implement integrated approaches to the sustainable management of water, the subsurface, and environmental resources. In addition, the partners aim to make knowledge, experience and skills from both institutions available to individuals and organisations working in relevant sectors.

Deltares and UNESCO-IHE have the intention to share staff and facilities for education, as well as to carry out joint research in the field of flood risk, ecosystems and environmental quality, delta infrastructure, sustainable delta planning and subsoil resources.

The parties are also taking a joint interest in developing short courses and distance learning, both for teaching purposes as well as for software training.
