Ioana Popescu, Associate Professor of Hydroinformatics at IHE Delft was appointed as a full member of the new Scientific Committee (SC) of the World Data System (WDS) for a 3-year term (2018-2021). The committee of 13 members was chosen by the Executive Board of the International Council for Science.
WDS promotes universal and equitable access to quality-assured scientific data, and data services and products across the sciences and humanities. The Scientific Committee (SC) is its governing body, comprising of scientists and experts who are actively involved with data and computer sciences, and deal with large dataset issues. The members include directors of WDS member organizations, and cover a broad range of disciplines and geographical regions.
Ioana’s work focusses on computational methods, flood modelling and flood related vulnerability, lakes and reservoir modelling, river systems modelling and optimisation. She has been involved in a number of educational and capacity development projects related to the development and application of modelling systems for water-related domains. Her term at the SC commences on 1 July, 2018.
