IHE Delft student support boosted by 12.500 Euro donation from Dutch sewerage and urban drainage company

IHE Delft will contribute to the financing of the studies of an MSc student focusing on sustainable urban water management thanks to a donation from Dutch sewerage and urban drainage company Van Der Velden.

The donation was presented to IHE Delft during a rowing event organized in September 2021 by Rotary club Wamel Maas en Waal in the Netherlands. Rotary sponsors IHE Delft students every year, and the new donation supplements these existing scholarships.

“Supporting water professionals studying at IHE Delft ensures that others can have access to clean drinking water. This will have a positive influence on food safety, education and health,” says Walter van der Velden Jonkers, Van der Velden Business Unit Director.

The company, which supports education as part of work to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, also plans to cooperate with IHE Delft on rainwater harvesting and water reuse.

Chris Zevenbergen, IHE Delft Professor of Flood Resilience of Urban Systems, said: “This donation makes a real impact by partly sponsoring the studies of one of our students. Our future collaboration will add to this impact by enabling all students to learn from Van Der Velden’s knowledge and practical experience.”
