Yeshiwas Degu Belay is a student perusing MA in International Relations (International Security) at the University of Groningen, in Groningen, the Netherlands. Previously, he studied Human rights, Gender and Conflict Studies (MA) at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, and International Gender Equality Studies (Postgraduate diploma) at the UNU-GEST of the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, Iceland. He also studied Political Science and International Relations (BA) at Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Currently, Yeshiwas is writing his master thesis on “Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in the context of Hydro-politics and Securitisation of Water in the Nile River Basin”.
Yeshiwas is an intern at IHE Delft involving in the research part of Open Water Diplomacy Lab Project and writing stories on DUPC2 projects for the Liaison Office. His decision to do internship was emanated from his keen research interest in water diplomacy/conflict, media (hydro-) politics, and water governance & development. He believes that his stay at IHE Delft would have a paramount importance in capacitating his knowledge and skills and providing him with networking and guidance for further work on these areas. As having a social science background, he aims to contribute to the research projects by adding his perceptive of looking water beyond H2O.
