UNESCO-IHE Paper Number 1 Most Cited in Leading Elsevier Journal

The November 2009 paper 'Modelling storm impacts on beaches, dunes and barrier islands', the root paper describing the open-source storm impact model XBeach, made it to number 1 most cited since 2008 in Elsevier's leading Coastal Engineering journal.

The paper is developed by a team from UNESCO-IHE, Deltares, Delft University of Technology and the University of Miami.

One of the authors of the paper, Prof. Dano Roelvink explains the paper's popularity: "This reflects the widespread use and further development by the academic and engineering community worldwide, in areas ranging from dune erosion to barrier island overwashing and from sandy to coral reef environments".
