The 2013 PhD week will be held from 23 to 27 September, with the PhD Symposium at UNESCO-IHE from 23 to 25 September and the A1 SENSE Course in Apeldoorn from 25 to 27 September. This week showcases PhD research at UNESCO-IHE and provides an opportunity for discussion, feedback, and collaboration.

Integrity of Water Systems in a Developing World

The PhD Symposium showcases PhD research at UNESCO-IHE. A total number of 59 PhD fellows from 34 countries, covering 4 continents will present their research. The general theme for the symposium is "Integrity of Water Systems in a Developing World". There will be six sessions in the following categories:

  1. Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation
  2. Water-Related Hazards and Climate Change
  3. Water and Ecosystems Quality
  4. Water Management and Governance
  5. Water, Food and Energy Security
  6. Information and Knowledge Systems

The Symposium is a good opportunity for PhD fellows to share their research or proposal ideas with peers, mentors and others. It will include invited plenary speakers, parallel oral presentation sessions and poster presentations during which PhD fellows will present their work, a PhD Forum and other related activities. On Monday, 23 September the day will finish with PhD drinks while on Tuesday, 24 September a PhD dinner will be held as well.

The last two and half days of the week (Sept 25 - 27) comprise the A1 SENSE course, which will be held in Apeldoorn. This course is required for all of UNESCO-IHE´s PhD fellows. Please visit the SENSE website for more information.
