Indah Salvia Amin comes from Indonesia and lives in the capital city Jakarta. She studies Water Resources Management at IHE Delft. Since 2009 Indah has been working in the Water Resource department of the Ministry of Public Works of Indonesia. For her job she is in contact with various stakeholders and the general public to discuss how they can participate in water resource management.

When she was studying for her Bachelor’s degree, she realized that most of her lecturers had a diploma from IHE Delft. She also realized that many of her colleagues also had a diploma from IHE Delft so then Indah asked her colleagues about IHE Delft.

Once I understood how much expertise in the field of water lies in The Netherlands, I realized the best place to study Water Resources Engineering would be there.

“At IHE Delft we also learn how Integrated Water Resource Management works in other countries. It varies a lot how active the stakeholders, public and the government actions are because there is a different approach in the various countries. I decided to study in the field of water because water is vital. Water is a resource that you cannot replace, it is unique. I would like to be able to make a contribution to my country by managing water in a better way.

The teaching style at IHE Delft is completely different from Indonesia. At IHE Delft we can have an active discussion with the lecture in the restaurant of IHE Delft. In Indonesia some universities put their information on the internet, but most universities do not do this yet. IHE Delft makes all the materials available on E-Campus, which is helpful to students as it enables us to download documents whenever and wherever we are.

I liked the introduction week, especially the boat trip and the fieldtrip to the North Sea. I was excited to meet a lot of open-minded people from different backgrounds and it was a lot of fun getting to know each other. The people are very friendly in Delft. Delft has a perfect study environment, I can recommend IHE Delft to future water professionals.
