High level policy dialogue on "Deciphering Interlinkages of SDG6 through Multi-sector Partnerships"

UN General Assembly

The UN 2023 Water Conference vision statement acknowledges that “without a functioning, resilient water cycle for all people everywhere,” human health, environmental integrity and a sustainable, equitable future “will remain out of reach.” Understanding the linkages is a first step towards active management and will help governments establish intersectoral mechanisms and procedures to address these issues.

The main purpose of this high-level policy dialogue is to emphasize how the goals related to water and sanitation (Goal 6) are interconnected with other social, economic, and environmental goals and targets in the 2030 Agenda. The objective is to recognize that addressing water and sanitation issues in conjunction with other goals is crucial for achieving Goal 6. By implementing the targets set under Goal 6, progress can be made towards achieving several other targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda. The event aims to gather important insights and messages from various organizations, experts, leaders, including intergovernmental organizations, UN entities, and stakeholders representing different sectors. Susanne Schmeier, IHE Delft Head of the Water Governance Department and Associate Professor of Water Law and Diplomacy will take part during the discussion.
