About the webinar

The Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region represents one of the driest areas in the world – at the same time, water scarcity is becoming increasingly severe due to climate change, growing water demands from all sectors, and unsustainable water resources management. In this context, the Water and Development Partnership Programme (DUPC2) has supported many projects with the aim of addressing water scarcity. The focus of these projects ranges from scientific assessments and innovations to capacity development and fostering partnerships.

This webinar will synthesize insights and experiences from different DUPC2 projects on the importance of capacity building and partnerships in addressing water scarcity in the MENA region. Through presentations and a panel discussion, the speakers, including those from IHE Delft and MENA countries, will collectively address the following questions:

  • What are the relevant insights and lessons that the projects have learned regarding capacity building and partnerships for mitigating water scarcity?
  • What good practices could we highlight when in terms of capacity and partnerships for water resources management in the MENA region?
  • What roles do meaningful partnerships play in addressing water scarcity, and how do capacity building activities benefit existing and new partnerships?

  • Rehab Abd Almohsen, Science Journalist
  • Sharine El Wattar, Programme Design and Coordination lead, UNDP Egypt
  • Prof. Dr Felix Mtalo Department of Water Resources Engineering, University of Dar es Salaam
