Laddaporn Ruangpan

Laddaporn is from Thailand. Laddaporn came for her bachelor degree to the Netherlands for a project about water management in the polders. She decided to study in The Netherlands, owing to its vast knowledge about water management. She researched universities in The Netherlands and saw that IHE Delft had interesting programmes. In her opinion IHE Delft is the best place in the world to study for the water sector due to the Institute’s expertise.

About problems in her home country: ‘’Thailand is facing many problems related to water management: floods during the monsoon, with is water scarcity in the dry periods. These cause many problems for agriculture, infrastructures and food supply.”

Laddaporn worked at Panya Consultants for one year before she comes to study at IHE Delft. At her job she is doing modelling, coordination and feasibility studies, most projects come from the government.

On her motivation to study in the water sector: My Bachelor’s study was Civil Engineering. I felt that it was very important to study in the field of water, it is the most important asset in life, and you need to use it every day. In Thailand we have a lot of water resources, but we cannot manage them.

I want to be a professional in this field and advise my country on how we can solve water problems within the sustainable development goals.

On life in Delft: “With other students we have a dinner or trip to get to know Delft and The Netherlands. The Dutch people are very nice.’’
