Student experiences

Vittorio Nespeca

Vittorio Nespeca

Vittorio Nespeca comes from Italy and studies Water Science and Engineering. He has a background in Environmental Engineering.

‘’I was looking for information on Hydroinformatics and I found a lecture at Nebraska University given by a professor at IHE Delft and I thought: ‘this guy is great’. That’s how I found out about IHE Delft.’’

‘’Previously I have studied Ecosystems services and I have been on exchange in Finland twice for my Masters. I chose to study in the field of water because I like rivers, it’s technical - that’s my obsession technical stuff. But it is also social, so you can help people and therefore I think it corresponds well with what I like. ‘’

‘’The teaching style at IHE Delft is definitely very different from Italy: in Italy the programmes are less compact and you have more time to hang out. Here it’s much more compressed. To a certain extent I like it, because it forces you to focus on the more important things whilst you are here. You don’t waste time on certain things, you work more efficiently and you work hard.’’

Vittorio: ‘’I have a student loan and I am also using my savings to study at IHE Delft. I will have to work at some point to pay it off, but the loan is very good motivation to complete the study successfully. Eventually, I want to work in a Non-European or (South) American related culture. I would like to go to India or Africa, either is of interest to me. I would like to help decision makers, make sustainable decisions when it comes to water and the environment. ‘’

‘’This isn’t my first exchange, I’m experienced in exchanges by now. This is like a deja vu. You want to meet new people. The first week at IHE Delft was a good time.’’

‘’I live in Frankstraat, it’s slightly further than Mina from IHE Delft. I cycle every day to IHE Delft. In the Netherlands its a lot warmer than Finland. Delft is a very nice city, but I haven’t really gotten to know the city yet, I have only seen parts of it. Before, I started at IHE Delft I was in Eindhoven for a while, which was very nice. Also I got to taste some different Dutch dishes. I have been partying in The Hague and Rotterdam, I haven’t been to Amsterdam so far but I will go soon.’’
