Apply now: 2024-2025 Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future fellowships
The Schlumberger Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 Faculty for the Future Fellowships program. The program seeks to accelerate gender equality in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by generating conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific careers.

Water and Development Partnership Programme: 10 proposals selected for funding
IHE Delft’s Water and Development Partnership Programme has selected 10 projects that focus on service delivery and asset management for drinking water supply, protection and adaptation against flooding, and transboundary river basin collaboration for funding. Developing post-graduate curricula and training programmes are part of several of the projects, which together will receive €4 million. The selected projects are among the 177 preliminary ideas submitted in response to the call. Of these, 48 teams developed full proposals. The 10 selected projects have budgets of up to €400,000 and durations of 2 to 3.5 years.

Early MSc application access for IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme
The fourth application cycle of the IAEA’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) is now open. Women interested in studying nuclear related subjects (including Isotopic Techniques, applied to Human Health, Food and Agriculture, Biotechnology and Biophotonics, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering) are encouraged to apply by 30 September 2023. This year, the MSCFP is expected to award 200 students scholarships, which is the highest number per cycle to date.

IHE Delft alumna Afua Owusu wins Falkenmark award for best PhD thesis
Afua Owusu has won the inaugural Falkenmark award for best PhD thesis for her work on the protection and restoration of naturally flowing rivers through the provision of environmental flows (e-flows). The prize, awarded by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), recognizes outstanding contributions to hydrological understanding of water scarcity and water supply.

Amid increasing environmental and societal challenges, it is crucial to identify innovative and sustainable approaches to water management. Traditional methods that rely on gutters, drains and pipes – engineered solutions known as grey infrastructure - are limited in their effectiveness and adaptability and therefore resilience. Nature-based solutions (NbS), which involve water managers working with nature, form a promising alternative. A new book, ‘Greening water risks: Natural Assurance Schemes’, highlights tools and methods to support the use of NbS and help maximise their benefits

Short course scholarship opportunities for water professionals
The MENA Scholarship programme (MSP) and the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) are providing fully funded scholarships for a range of IHE Delft short courses in 2024. Early/mid-career water professionals from more than 30 countries are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadlines of 2 August (OKP) and 30 August 2023 (MSP).

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and IHE Delft continue to collaborate on hydro-climate research
In May 2023, at the 19th World Meteorological Congress held in Geneva, Switzerland, IHE Delft and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) renewed their long-term commitment to collaborate with each other. IHE Delft Rector Eddy Moors and Stefan Uhlenbrook, Director of Hydrology and Cryosphere at WMO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership for the next 5 years.

IHE Delft Governing Board member appointed as Water Envoy Climate Adaptation for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management
IHE Delft Governing Board member Meike van Ginneken has been appointed as Netherlands Special Envoy for Water effective 1 August 2023. She will also serve as programme director Climate Adaptation in the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
